DUI Statistics

According to FLDHSMV.GOV in March of 2022 there were 479 ALCOHOL related crashes which was a 3% increase from the year before. This resulted in 41 deaths and 41 serious bodily injuries. Of the total 5,746 driving impaired crashes in Florida in 2022 10% almost 568 happened in the Month of March. Theses crashes are for all forms of impairment such as alcohol, drug or a combination of the two. The top counties in Florida that recorded these incidents were

1. Pinellas County FL with 64

2. Duval County FL with 58

3. Hillsborough County FL with 54

4. Lee County FL with 49

5. Orange County FL with 40

6. Manatee County FL with 34

All other Counties had about 469 DUI related crashes

In March of 2022 a total of 3,013 citations have been written for DUI, and about 647 open container tickets have been issued. Remember DUI is not just alcohol, prescription pills, marijuana and recreational drugs play a significant role as well. Marijuana is more popular with teens and young adults and has no specific impairment regulation, it effects everyone differently and remains in the system much longer than alcohol.

In 2024, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties accounted for 18% of the 44,000 DUI arrests in Florida, which is more than Miami and Broward combined In Hillsborough County, there are about 450 drunk driving accidents per year, involving nearly 275 injuries and about 25 deaths. DUI can be a serious crime, injuries or property damage can also happen as a result of an alcohol or drug related DUI crash.

According to the National Highway Transportation Association, there were about 13,300 DUI related deaths in 2021. DUI charges that concern death or serious bodily injury can and will result in severe penalties for drivers.
